 SSTR4 ANTIBODY TARGET DESCRIPTION:
Synonym Names for SSTR4 antibody: SSTR4; SS4R; Somatostatin receptor 4

Function: Receptor for somatostatin-14. The activity of this receptor is mediated by G proteins which inhibits adenylyl cyclase. It is functionally coupled not only to inhibition of adenylate cyclase, but also to activation of both arachidonate release and mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase cascade. Mediates antiproliferative action of somatostatin in tumor cells.

Subcellular Location: Membrane; multi-pass membrane protein.

Tissue Specificity: Specifically expressed in fetal and adult brain, lung tissue, stomach, and in lesser quantities in the kidney, pituitary and adrenals.

Similarity: Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family [view classification].

Summary: Somatostatin acts at many sites to inhibit the release of many hormones and other secretory proteins. The biologic effects of somatostatin are probably mediated by a family of G protein-coupled receptors that are expressed in a tissue-specific manner. SSTR4 is a member of the superfamily of receptors having seven transmembrane segments and is expressed in highest levels in fetal and adult brain and lung.

Somatostatin receptor type 4 reacts with human.

OMIM: 182454; gene. [NCBI / EBI]
