 Chrom Location: N/A
 Clone: B29.1 (VU-ID9)

 Isotype: IgG1

Immunogen: Small cell lung carcinoma cells

Specificity: This antibody reacts with a 40 kD cell surface glycoprotein called epithelial specific antigen (ESA). It reacts with the same molecule which is also detected by antibodies such as 17-1A, AUA1, KS1/4, Ber-EP4, 323/A3, MOC-31, GA733, HEA125 and others.

Positive Control: Breast, Colon Carcinoma and Tonsil

 Target: ESA

 Conjugation: Biotin

 Concentration: 0.2 mg/ml

Storage Buffer: Phosphate-buffered saline, pH 7.2, containing 0.2%BSA and 0.09% sodium azide.

Application Note: For FACS: Use at 1-5 ug/ml per 10^6 cells. For WB: Use at 1-5µg/ml. For IHC-P: used at a dilution of 1:50-1:60. To differentiate between mesothelioma and carcinoma. Digestion with pepsin at 1mg/ml must be preformed. Prolonged fixation in buffered formalin can destroy the epitope. The optimal conditions should be determined by the individual laboratory.

Synonym Names for ESA antibody: ESA; 4072; TACSTD1; 185535; P16422; CO17-1A; EGP; EGP40; Ep-CAM; GA733-2; KSA; M4S1; MIC18; MK-1; TROP1; hEGP-2;; Mouse monoclonal [B29.1 VU-ID9] to Epithelial Specific Antigen (Biotin); 4072; TACSTD1; 185535; P16422; CO17-1A; EGP; EGP40; Ep-CAM; GA733-2; KSA; M4S1; MIC18; MK-1; TROP1; hEGP-2;; Tumor-associated calcium signal transducer 1

EGP40 is a 40kDa transmembrane epithelial glycoprotein, also identified as epithelial specific antigen (ESA), or epithelial cellular adhesion molecule (Ep-CAM). It is expressed on baso-lateral cell surface in most simple epithelia and a vast majority of carcinomas. Esa1 acetylates lysine residues of the histone H4 tail in S. cerevisiae. Acetylation of histones gives a specific tag for epigenetic transcription activation - acetylation of histone H4 is essential for DNA double-strand break repair. ESA1 is required for cell cycle progression, it reportedly distinguishes adenocarcinomas from pleural mesotheliomas.

Function: GA733 tumor-associated antigen gene family may function as growth factor receptors.

Subunit: Monomer.

Subcellular Location: Membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein.

Tissue Specificity: This protein is expressed in almost all epithelial cell membranes but not on mesodermal or neural cell membranes. Found on the surface of adenocarcinomas.

Similarity: Contains 1 thyroglobulin type-1 domain.

ESA [B29.1 (VU-ID9)] (Biotin) reacts with human - does not cross react with rat - not yet tested in other species.

OMIM: 185535; gene. [NCBI / EBI]
