Amount Used: 1 mg/106 cells BALB/c splenocytes were first incubated with purified rat anti-mouse CD31 and then with goat anti-rat Ig-FITC (Cat. No. 25-787-278205). Small lymphocytes were gated and analyzed on a FACScana flow cytometer (BDIS, San Jose, CA).)

Mouse CD31/PECAM-1, Mr 130-140 kDa CD31, also known as platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (PECAM-1), is a type I integral membrane glycoprotein and a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily of cell surface receptors. It is constitutively expressed on the surface of endothelial cells, and concentrated at the junction between them. It is also weakly expressed on many peripheral lymphoid cells and paltelets.1-3 CD31 interacts homotypically in cell adhesion assays. MAb 390 inhibits the aggregation of L cells transfected with a variant form of CD31.1, 3

Function: This protein is a cell adhesion molecule expressed on platelets and at endothelial cell intercellular junctions.

Subcellular Location: Membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein.

Tissue Specificity: Long isoform predominates all tissues examined, isoform Delta12 was detected only in trachea and isoform Delta14-15 only in lung, isoform Delta14 was detected in all tissues examined with the strongest expression in heart.

Ptm: Phosphorylated on Ser and Tyr residues after cellular activation.

Similarity: Contains 6 Ig-like C2-type (immunoglobulin-like) domains.
