 HP PROTEIN TARGET DESCRIPTION:
Synonym Names for HP protein: HP; Hp, Bp; N/A; Haptoglobin

Haptoglobin is a glycoprotein secreted in the blood plasma that binds free haemoglobin thereby inhibiting its oxidative activity and preventing iron loss following haemolysis. Haptoglobin also regulates the activity of many cell types of the immune system and is an extracellular chaperone. Haptoglobin is produced mostly by hepatocytes but also by other tissues: e.g. skin, lung and kidney. Haptoglobin is a tetramer of two ?- and two ?-chains, connected by disulfide bridges. The chains originate from a common precursor protein, which is proteolytically cleaved during protein synthesis.
RANDOX recombinant Haptoglobin ?-chain comprises a 245 amino acid fragment (162-406) corresponding to the mature haptoglobin ?-chain and is expressed in E. coli with an amino-terminal hexahistidine tag. This product is for research use only and is not intended for diagnostic or therapeutic use.

Function: Haptoglobin combines with free plasma hemoglobin, preventing loss of iron through the kidneys and protecting the kidneys from damage by hemoglobin, while making the hemoglobin accessible to degradative enzymes.

Subunit: Tetramer of two alpha and two beta chains.

Subcellular Location: Secreted.

Tissue Specificity: Expressed by the liver and secreted in plasma.

Polymorphism: In the human populations there are two major allelic forms, alpha-1 with 83 residues and alpha-2 with 142 residues. These alleles determine the 3 major phenotypes HP*1F/HP*1S and HP*2FS. The two main alleles of HP*1 are called HP*1F (fast) and HP*1S (slow).

Similarity: Belongs to the peptidase S1 family [view classification].

Similarity: Contains 1 peptidase S1 domain [view classification].

Similarity: Contains 2 Sushi (CCP/SCR) domains.

OMIM: 140100; gene. [NCBI / EBI]

GenWay is a Protein and Antibody Solutions Provider. Customer Satisfaction is Our Top Priority.

GenWay has a diverse line of recombinant protein expression platforms, including E. coli expression, Bacliovirus expression, yeast expression, and mammalian expression. Combining the technologies of bioinformatics, protein domain analysis, gene codon optimization, protein fusion, and protein expression in different host cells, GenWay can produce soluble and functional proteins. In particular, GenWay has the capability and vector systems for expression of difficult proteins such as proteases, kinases, glycosylated and membrane proteins. We have a very high success rate (almost 100%) and can deliver the proteins in a timely fashion. This is a core competency necessary for efficient and effective production of immunogens and affinity ligands for antibody production and purification. GenWay has over 300

recombinant proteins

offered in our catalog.
