Notes: Peptide ELISA: antibody detection limit dilution 1:64,000. Western Blot: Preliminary experiments gave an approx 75kDa band in Human Liver lysates after 0.01ug/ml antibody staining. Please note that currently we cannot find an explanation in the literature for the band we observe given the calculated size of 43.7kDa according to NP_078884.1. The 75kDa band was successfully blocked by incubation with the immunizing peptide.

Summary: NEIL1 belongs to a class of DNA glycosylases homologous to the bacterial Fpg/Nei family. These glycosylases initiate the first step in base excision repair by cleaving bases damaged by reactive oxygen species and introducing a DNA strand break via the associated lyase reaction (Bandaru et al., 2002 [PubMed 12509226]).[supplied by OMIM].
