Function: Histone methyltransferase. Probably methylates 'Lys-4' of histone H3, a specific tag for epigenetic transcriptional activation (By similarity).

Catalytic Activity: S-adenosyl-L-methionine + histone L-lysine = S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine + histone N6-methyl-L-lysine.

Subcellular Location: Nucleus. Cell junction, tight junction. Note=The relevance of tight junction localization is however unclear.

Tissue Specificity: Widely expressed, with highest level in brain, heart and kidney.
