Immunogen: Synthetic peptide corresponding to a region of human Aurora A Kinase encoded within exon 5.
Specificity Note: This product is specific for human Aurora A Kinase, also known as Serine/Threonine Kinase 6 (STK6).
Aurora A Kinase is a cell-cycle regulated kinase that has an important role in centrosome maturation and chromosome segregation. This protein is found at the centrosome in interphase cells and at the spindle poles in mitosis.
Recent studies have revealed that Aurora A Kinase is frequently overexpressed in various human carcinomas, which would suggest that this protein may be involved in tumorigenesis.
Antiserum Preparation: Antisera to human Aurora A Kinase were raised by repeated immunisations of rabbits with highly purified antigen. Purified IgG was prepared from whole serum by affinity chromatography.

Function: May play a role in cell cycle regulation during anaphase and/or telophase, in relation to the function of the centrosome/spindle pole region during chromosome segregation. Maybe involved in microtubule formation and/or stabilization. May play a key role during tumor development and progression.
Catalytic Activity: ATP + a protein = ADP + a phosphoprotein.
Subunit: Interacts with TACC1 and CPEB1. Interacts with and phosphorylates BORA (By similarity).
Subcellular Location: Centrosome (By similarity). Spindle (By similarity). Note=Localizes on centrosomes in interphase cells and at each spindle pole in mitosis (By similarity).
Tissue Specificity: Expressed in mammary gland and tumor.
Induction: Activated by progesterone.
