Immunogen: Synthetic peptide corresponding to a thirteen amino acid sequence with the C-terminal region of human XIAP.
Specificity Note: This product is specific for human X-chromosome linked inhibitor of apoptosis (XIAP).
XIAP is an endogenous inhibitor of cell death, which functions by suppressing caspases 3, 7, and 9. The protein is also reported to play a a role in the activation of NF kappa B and the regulation of cyclins and cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors (CDKIs).
Regulators of XIAP activity include XAF-1 and Smac.
This product detects a band of approximately 57KDa in human kidney lysates.
Immunohistology: This product requires antigen retrieval using heat treatment prior to staining of paraffin sections.
Antiserum Preparation: Antisera to human XIAP were raised by repeated immunisations of rabbits with highly purified antigen. Purified IgG prepared by affinity chromatography.

Summary: The protein encoded by this gene is a member of a family of proteins which inhibit apoptosis through binding to tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factors TRAF1 and TRAF2. Similar to API1, BIRC4 inhibits apoptosis induced by menadione, a potent inducer of free radicals, and ICE. BIRC4 also inhibits at least two members of the caspase family of cell-death proteases, caspase-3 and caspase-7.
